VfL Bochum is a German football club based in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded in 1848, they are one of the oldest clubs in German football history. The team currently competes in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier of the German football league system.
The club's greatest success was in the early 1980s, when they won the German championship in 1983 and were runners-up in 1984. They also won the German Cup in 1985. In 1985, they also made it to the UEFA Cup final, where they lost to Real Madrid.
VfL Bochum plays their home games at the vonovia Ruhrstadion, which has a capacity of over 32,000. The club's traditional colours are blue and white. Their current manager is Thomas Reis.
