The club was founded in 1945, and currently plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of German football. VfL Wolfsburg has won the Bundesliga title once, in 2009, and the DFB-Pokal once, in 2015. The team has also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League twice, in 2014 and 2015.
