Rotherham United Football Club is an English professional football club based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The club competes in League One, the third tier of the English football league system. Nicknamed "The Millers", the club was founded in 1925 and initially played in the Midland League. They joined the Football League in 1925 and have since spent all but one season in the English football league system. Rotherham United have played in a number of different leagues, including the Football League Second Division, Football League Third Division, Football League Second Division, Football League One and Football League Championship. The club's home ground is the New York Stadium, which has been their home since 2012. The club also participates in a number of cup competitions, including the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. The club's most successful period came from 1996 to 1998 when they won promotion to the Football League First Division, and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1996.
