Charlton Athletic FC is an English professional football club based in Charlton, London. The club competes in the English Football League One, the third tier of English football. Founded in 1905, the club play their home matches at The Valley in south-east London. The club is nicknamed the Addicks, and their traditional kit consists of red shirts, white shorts and white socks. Nicknamed the Addicks, Charlton have a long-standing rivalry with nearby Crystal Palace and Millwall. The club's most successful period was from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s, when they achieved two consecutive promotions to the highest level of English football, and won the FA Cup in 1947.
