Shimizu S-Pulse FC is a Japanese professional football club based in Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka Prefecture. The team plays in the J1 League, the top tier of the Japanese football league system. Founded in 1991, the team has a long history of success in the J. League, winning the J. League Championship in 1996 and finishing as runners-up in the Emperor's Cup three times. The team also reached the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League in 2012. The team plays its home matches at IAI Stadium Nihondaira and is managed by Tsutomu Takahata.
