Gremio F.C. is a Brazilian professional football club based in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. It was founded on 15 September 1903 by Englishman and railway worker Herbert William Lawford. It currently plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the first division of the Brazilian football league system. The club has won the most prestigious trophy in Brazil, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, a total of eight times, and the Campeonato Gaúcho a record 44 times. The club also won the Copa do Brasil twice, the Copa Libertadores once, the Recopa Sudamericana once, the Intercontinental Cup once, the Copa Sudamericana once, and the Suruga Bank Championship once.
